If you’re in an accident

Immediately after a Car Accident STOP

However minor you think a car accident is, you must stop. In fact, failing to do so is an offence under the Road Traffic Act. You should make sure your car’s engine is switched off and then turn your hazard lights on to alert other road users to your presence.

Our Main Concern at Pro-Van Hire is your Health and Safety.

Call 999 or 101

Take a look around. If anyone has been injured in the car accident you should call an ambulance, if necessary as soon as possible. The police should also be called if the car accident is blocking the road or if you feel there was foul play involved –  if you suspect you’re a victim of a ‘crash for cash’ scam, for example, where a driver deliberately causes an accident to make a fraudulent insurance claim.

You must call Pro-Van Hire, as soon as you are safe and have been treated by medical professionals. Should you not require treatment you must call us immediately.

Giving Details after a Car Accident

When you’re involved in a car accident you’re obliged to give your name and address to anyone else involved or with reasonable grounds for requiring them,’ for example an insurance company. You should also provide details if damage has been caused to third party property or a parked car, even if there are no other people involved. For example, if you hit a parked car, leaving a note on the cars windscreen is sufficient if you’re unable to locate the owner.

You also need to give Pro-Van Hire company details as we are owners and registered keepers of the vehicle.

At the Scene

Note down a detailed description of what happened, collecting as much information – photographs and notes – as you can while at the scene

  • Scene- date, time, location, weather conditions, traffic conditions, road markings/signs/signals
  • Vehicles- make, model, registration number, colour, condition, estimated speed, direction, use of lights/indicators, number of passengers
  • People- contact details, description/distinguishing features of driver(s), contact details of passengers, pedestrians/other witnesses, details of any police officers involved
  • Damage- description of the damage to vehicles/property and any injuries to people involved
